PLUSH 9
Saturday 3 September, 7.30pm
'Never have I had such a success! I can't get over it. Everyone seems to love the 'Concert'!'; So wrote Ernest Chausson after the first performance of this galvanising work for piano, violin and string quartet in 1892. Had he avoided a fatal bike fall a few years later, his reputation might well have reached the status of Ravel's, whose seminal trio remains as fresh and intoxicating as ever. One of the most enigmatic musical characters of the baroque era, Rameau's graceful and attractive music conceals a hugely progressive style that continues to fascinate us today.
