Adrian Brendel

Born in London in 1976, Adrian Brendel studied at Winchester College, Cambridge University and with Frans Helmerson at the Cologne music conservatoire.
His close musical relationship with his father Alfred Brendel led to many chamber music appearances throughout the world and culminated in a critically acclaimed Philips recording of Beethoven’s complete music for cello and piano.
In 2011 Adrian has toured Europe with esteemed trio partners Till Fellner and Corey Cerovsek, and in recital with Tim Horton. Other recent collaborations have included Mozart’s quartets at Kings Place with Imogen Cooper, Wigmore Hall concerts with the Jerusalem quartet and Szymanowski quartet, and encounters with jazz and world musicians at Loft festival in Cologne. Adrian gave the world premiere of Sir Harrison Birtwistle’s Bögenstrich with Till Fellner and Roderick Williams at the 2009 Cheltenham Festival; further collaboration with the composer has yielded three new works, all premiered in the last 12 months and to be recorded for ECM in August.
In February Adrian premiered a new work by York Hoeller for cello and orchestra with NDR Hamburg, the duo version of which receives its English premiere in our final Plush concert this year.
Adrian founded Music at Plush in 1995 and has been festival Music Director throughout its development. Adrian divides his time between Plush, London and Berlin and is Classical Music Director of music label Plushmusic.
